TILT Music Blog – My Favorite Albums in 2008

Over the past few years I’ve been part of a music message board (Pulso Rock) where at the end of every year we post our individual favorite albums that we’ve listened to that particular year but released that same year.  It has slowly become a nice little tradition that we still continue.  So I decided to start documenting on my own blog my choices and perhaps give a little bit more information on my choices.   I will start with previous years and later on I’ll include my 2010 picks (considering I’m still adding to the list).  There will be albums in English and in Spanish and sometimes maybe even on another language.So I hope you enjoy my lists and share with me on the comments what have been your favorite albums of such years.  If you click on the artwork of each album you’ll be taken to the group’s MySpace page so you can listen to some of their music, if my two liners and the art entice you.  If you click on the artist’s name, for the ones that have a hyperlink, you can go to a previous review I’ve done about that particular group in my blog.

TILT Music Blog – Tony Christie (Made In Scheffield – 2008)

A casualty of destiny got the music of this artist right on my lap.  One of those invites that one tends to ignore on the myspace social network, only this time I just went ahead and listened to Tony Christie’s music.  I must say it’s been a while since I’ve heard something like this without looking for it.

It’s been a while since I’ve come across a group that makes me want to write about them.  I keep looking but either I’m getting pickier or there is nothing out there impressing me.  Then I decided to give Faded Paper Figures a listen and I must say it’s good to get what you crave when you are craving it.

TILT Music Blog – Manos De Topo

This entry is going to be a tough sale for some.  I’ve sometimes read description of his style of music as Bizarre Pop so you can see where I’m going with this.  Manos De Topo is an indie group from Spain localized in Barcelona that have slowly but steadily grown their fan base by playing the tune of being different.

TILT Music Blog – Aerogramme

Like many times before, I hear about artists before I actually hear them…if that makes any sense.  I’ve always said you listen to a group when it is the time to do it.  Enter Aerogramme to the picture.  The first time I heard of them I think it was January.  A friend from Spain told me I had to hear their latest music which as it turns out is a big shift from their previous material which was a bit less mellow and less melancholic. 

TILT Music Blog – TILT Mix Tape #3

On this third installment of TILT’s Mix Tape, I continue to include songs from groups I’ve already reviewed on the blog.  In this one, with the exception of one or two, most of groups have more of a “rock” vibe going on.  Most of them are well known inside their nitches, but I can’t say any of them have received great commercial success. 

TILT Music Blog – Mates Of State

It’s funny how you discover a group sometimes.  Somebody puts an album on your face and if you are not ready, you are not ready.  This happened to me with this group about a year ago now.  A friend told me about this incredible group I just had to listened to called Mates of State.  I told him “yea yea, I’ll get to it.” since I was listening to so much new music at that moment, the thought of another band was just too much.

Back again for a second mixtape of songs from groups I’ve reviewed on this blog.  Once again I’ve used mixwit.com as the host of choice.  This time I tried to give the songs a little bit of more orderly transition between them.  You know, a more organized compilation and not just random tracks.

It’s been going on for a while now.  Places like muxtape.com and mixwit.com  and a friends own mix called “This is not a mixtape“.  I decided to join in and went ahead and created an account on both sites for the TILT Music Blog.  Muxtape is more flexible because it depends completely on the music one uploads.
