Graphic Novel Review – The Runaways

November 14, 2008 Leave a comment

At first I was not too attracted toward this story. It had too much of a manga feel to it, and I don’t care for that particular style. The only thing that kept my interest was the writer, whom I have reviewed a few times. Bryan K. Vaughan, together with Adrian Alphona, got this story of Runaways going for Marvel Comics. Read more…

Graphic Novel Review – The Watchmen

October 3, 2008 Leave a comment

The graphic novel world has a variety of subjects for one to read.  Most of them are easy reads that combine a quick story with some nice graphics.  Sometimes what you get to read is so complex yet well structured that it hits you like a ton of bricks.  That was my experience with The Watchmen.  Yes, I know I’m twenty years late, and there are probably a ton of reviews about how marvelous it is.  Still, as a new person entering the graphic novel world, I feel compelled to share what I’ve absorbed from this work. Graphic Novel Review – The Hood

September 12, 2008 Leave a comment

After having read a few dozen graphic novels this past year, I’ve started to track previous works of the writers I’ve liked so far.  That’s how I came across The Hood.  Written by the creator of Y: The Last Man, Bryan K. What started out as a purchase for another zombie book, turned out to be something quite different from my expectations.  Dead Eyes Open, is a complex book that brings the reader an opportunity to see society thru the eyes of the most unusual of its members…the dead. Read more…

Graphic Novel Review – The Invisibles

Complex and Intense.  These are the best words to describe this graphic novel.  One of the best and most original works to come out of the nineties, The Invisibles, by Grant Morrison is a graphic novel with much excitement, pop magick, rebellion, universally lawless and most importantly it tends to expand your imagination and the limits of what you tend to believe. Graphic Novel Review – The Walking Dead

May 18, 2008 1 comment

This has been without a doubt, the most captivating graphic novel I’ve read in a long time (which isn’t that long of a time but still stick with me…it’s good).  The Walking Dead takes an approach to zombies that goes hand in hand with what regular fans enjoy the most: ongoing carnage, suspense and drama and yes of course…zombies.  But it also deals with human emotions and the survival instinct dormant in all of us (well must of us).  Read more…
