TILT Music Blog – Rilo Kiley
Rilo Kiley. This is one of those bands for which I would take a trip overnight to NYC (like three hours drive), and go to work the next day happy. It’s one of those little secrets of indie you don’t mind sharing with other people and would love to see everywhere. The sweet sweet voice of Jenny Lewis, the great compositions of Blake and Pierre and Jason giving the rhythm section something to look forward to. Don’t get me wrong, Rilo Kiley is not going to save rock (that task is impossible, and plus ain’t rock dead? anyway…) but for those of us who are tired of the same neo alternative crap or the grunge-core adaptation or the hip-core-metal extravaganza that was just as bad as the boyband era, this group brings some fresh air. An intersting note about this group is its interconnection with so many other great current groups in the same indie-venture. Groups such as The Postal Service, The Elected, Bright Eyes, Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins, and that’s just the other bands the members are part of, let’s not get started with the six degrees of separation. Their myspace page currently has four songs, one of which is “Moneymaker” the new single for their upcoming album (FINALLY!!!!). I’ve been waiting for this cd for a while. Although I’m not loving the funkyness of the song, it’s catchy and I like the melodies. Also the page has two songs from their previous album “More Adventurous” and one from the one before “The Execution Of All Things“. The page also has the video for the new single. I personally am very fond of the “More Adventurous” album. I find it to be just perfect. I can listen to it from start to finish without skipping songs (although I sometimes like to alter the order in my ipod). If you can get your hands on that one, do it, it’s worth it. The new one, well we’ll just have to see, but I’m hopeful it will be just as great.
On another note: Sometimes I can’t believe Blake Sennet was that dorky kid from Boy Meets World. Glad he overcame that fase and decided to do music.
